Wingate University, founded in 1896, is located in the college town of Wingate, NC. Wingate sits on Hwy 74 that spreads from the coast to the city of Charlotte, NC. With this location, there is plenty to offer.

Historic Downtown Monroe
Did you know that Belk department store was founded in Monroe by William Henry Belk in 1888? Visit downtown for shopping at stores such as the Silver Lining, M-Bellish, 47K Marketplace, and more! There are some good local options for food.
After you work up an appetite for something cold, take a short drive to Pelican's for more snow cone flavors than you can ever imagine. If you're having a hard time deciding, just spin the wheel.
Marshville is host to the Randy Travis Music Festival each year that recognizes the town as the hometown of the country music singer. This town has become popular for antique shops popping up in recent years such as Southern Indigo Porch and Old Tyme Marketplace.
This quaint town is worth the short drive through the country. The Indian Village of Waxhaw was discovered in 1670 by German traveler, John Lederer. Among the places to eat are stores such as the clock shop, bike shop, and Southern Specialities. On your drive over be sure to cut through to Dollar Cone to grab ice cream for one dollar!
